Paintings: 1960’s-70’s
During the 1960's, while Touster was busy raising a family and running the Cinderella Hat Co., his father’s hat-making business, he created sculpture and drawings non-stop. Most of his paintings during that decade were works on paper, often using watercolor in combination with his pencil drawings. The 1960’s saw very few works of oil on canvas.
His oil painting output and color palette exploded in the 1970’s. Mostly depicting the nude figure, his colors became brighter and more garish, possibly influenced by the psychedelic colors of the times. He often used color to differentiate spatial dimensions of the canvas, and to highlight certain parts of the canvas for emotional purposes. His imagery became more allegorical as he began to introduce musicians, muses, and historical references into the paintings.
