Poem Illustrations: Heros and Heroines

The poet, Reed Whittemore, was Touster’s captain in the army, and they became good friends. After the war, Whittemore asked Irwin to illustrate his book of poems, and it was published in 1946. Whittemore had founded the poetry magazine Furioso, where Touster briefly served as the magazine’s art editor.
